We are pleased to share that Murrells has been recognised at this year’s Modern Law Awards, one of the legal sector’s leading national programmes celebrating excellence across firms of every size.
We were shortlisted in three categories — Boutique Firm of the Year, Company Culture, and Operations Team of the Year — and are delighted to have been awarded Highly Commended in the latter two.
Operations Team of the Year: Highly Commended
This one means a great deal to us. Our operations team — Shelly, Becky, Hannah and Louise — cover finance, compliance, marketing, IT, front of house and more between just four people. They manage the technology that makes our lawyers more efficient, keep the firm compliant, welcome our clients, and do the hundred other things that have to happen before any legal work can begin. Being Highly Commended in this category is the industry recognising what we already know: that a firm is only as good as the people holding it together behind the scenes.
Company Culture: Highly Commended
Murrells became B Corp certified in August 2024, one of the smallest law firms in the UK to do so. We are a Real Living Wage Employer, we run an Employee Assistance Programme for all staff, we pay an equalised all-staff bonus, and we have recently launched a culture committee made up of junior team members from across the firm — given a real remit to shape how we operate day to day, not just to organise the Christmas party.
Being recognised for Company Culture at a national level reflects the effort that goes into making Murrells a place where people do their best work and feel the benefit of doing it. That is something we care about genuinely, not as a marketing exercise.
In both categories, Murrells was pipped to the top spot by significantly larger firms — Irwin Mitchell in Company Culture and Brachers in Operations Team of the Year. For a four-partner firm in Cornwall, we’ll take that.
Boutique Firm of the Year — Shortlisted
We were also shortlisted in the Boutique Firm of the Year category, recognising our deliberately focused service offering, our Legal 500 standings — including two Leading Individuals in the 2026 directory — and our approach to delivering national-calibre work from our single Cornwall base.
We remain, as ever, resolutely boutique. And quietly pleased about it.
